VOLUNTEER

We are looking for hard-working goat lovers to come help us each week to take care of the goats! Tasks may involve mucking out barns and chicken coops, putting up and repairing fencing, maintaining our trails and property, hauling hay bales or various other tasks. Volunteers must be able to commit to at least a 2- 4 hour shift, but you are welcome to stay longer to enjoy all of the goat love you can fit into a day!

INTERNSHIPS and JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Social Media and Marketing Intern/Manager

Part-time 6-10 hrs per week, flexible

Remote/On-site/Hybrid

$18-22 to start commensurate with experience

Duties + Responsibilities 

  • Develop and implement social media strategies to increase brand awareness and engagement

  • Create and curate engaging content for various social media platforms

  • Manage social media accounts and monitor performance metrics

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in social media marketing

  • Help identify new marketing trends and social media campaigns

  • Assist in organizing and managing fundraising campaigns/projects

  • Create special events materials and communications

  • Identify new outreach, advertising and partnership opportunities

  • Assist with program evaluation, campaign data analysis and database management

  • Assist with organization of in-house digital and print marketing material

  • Assist with community and/or fundraising events

  • Provide general administrative support, as needed

 

Required Skills

  • Strong sense of affinity with the mission and goals and able to effectively communicate the philosophy and mission of Frederick Farm Goat Rescue and Sanctuary

  • Friendly and outgoing with strong communication skills

  • Comfortable around farm animals or experience around farmed animals 

  • Basic computer skills and experience with online research

  • Familiarity with social media apps

  • Desire to learn or experience with online management platforms and organization tools

  • Ability to meet deadlines,  with strong attention to detail

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other interns, volunteers, and staff

  • Conscientious and dependable

  • Flexibility and openness to a multitude of tasks

  • Strong proofreading and writing skills

Helpful Additional Skills:

  • Social media or marketing experience

  • Photography

  • Basic videography and video editing skills

  • Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)

  • Google Analytics / Google Ads

  • Advertising knowledge (paid campaigns, targeting, etc.)

Animal Caregiver/Sanctuary Ambassador

Part-time 6-10 hrs per week, flexible

On-site

$16-20 to start commensurate with experience

This position provides individuals with a unique opportunity to advocate for and connect with farmed animals, to establish
community with like-minded people, and to obtain real-life and resumé-worthy experience of the day-to-day operations of an animal sanctuary. You will be responsible for feeding, watering and monitoring the physical and emotional well-being of approximately 40 formerly-farmed animals, while helping to manage and run group experiences open to the public when appropriate. This staff position will be part of a team that performs a range of tasks such as health checks and health maintenance (i.e. hoof trims), cleaning buildings, unloading hay, minor repairs around the farm and maintaining the grounds for the function and safety of goats and guests. This position is fast paced, physically demanding, and requires someone willing to work in all weather conditions.

 

Duties + Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for properly maintaining clean housing, water and bedding 

  • Enforcing all rules and protocols for visitors and volunteers on the property in a respectful manner 

  • Interact with the public on tour days and at special events.   

  • Feeding out hay to the goats

  • Cleaning water buckets and replenishing them with fresh water

  • Mucking and cleaning out barns, coops, and pens

  • Taking out garbage and recycling

  • Unloading hay and straw deliveries

  • Supporting staff during health checks and treatments, when needed

  • Observing animal behavior and getting to know each animal as an individual

  • Fence installation and repair

  • Grounds maintenance

  • Small machine operation and repair

  • Basic carpentry

  • Other tasks and duties as needed​

Required Skills 

  • Understand and able to effectively communicate the philosophy and mission of Frederick Farm Goat Rescue and Sanctuary

  • Ability to follow detailed instructions

  • Conscientious and dependable, with strong attention to detail

  • Ability to adapt to constantly changing situations, such as emergency transport/vet visits/injured animals/direct rescues 

  • Must be a reliable team player 

  • Must be physically (and mentally) able to do all tasks in any weather 

  • Willing and able to perform all responsibilities and duties

  • Ability to maintain a positive and respectful attitude

  • Strong team player while having the ability to work independently

  • Reliable and hard-working

  • Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, and consistently lifting at least 50 pounds unassisted

  • Efficient time management skills
